This Act establishes the Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters of Nigeria as a statutory body responsible for regulating the practice of the profession of chartered secretaries and reporters. It lays down conditions for the registration of members of the institute, sets up a disciplinary committee and an investigating panel to uphold the ethics of the profession; prescribes penalties for any contravention of its provisions and provides for a governing board that is responsible for policy formulation and implementation. This Act further provides for the appointment of a registrar and assistant registrar for the day-to-day running of the institute.
