Lesotho is a Southern African country uniquely located as an enclave in South Africa. The country has a temperate climate and a terrain that consists of highlands, plateaus, and mountains. 50 percent of the country’s 2.1 million people are under the age of 25. The Basotho represent 99 per cent of the country’s population. Sesotho and English are the official languages of the country.

The country uses a parliamentary constitutional monarchy that is administratively divided into 10 districts, including Maseru the capital of the country. The textile industry and the agricultural sector are the most important sectors of the economy. The country’s major source of foreign exchange earnings comes from the export of clothing, wool, diamond, water, and electricity. Lesotho’s over-reliance on South Africa, which supplies 85 percent of its imports, is a major area of concern.
