Namibia is a Southern African country bordering the South Atlantic Ocean and four other countries namely Angola, South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia. The country has a desert climate with sparse rainfall and a terrain that is mostly desert and high plateaus. It has a population of approximately 2.6 million people, of which 56 percent are under the age of 25. The major ethnic groups in the country are the Ovambo, Kavangos, Herero and Damara. English is the official language of the country, spoken alongside the local languages.

The country operates a presidential republic system of government that is administratively divided into 14 regions and Windhoek, the capital of the country. The mining sector is the most important sector of the economy with income from mined commodities such as diamond, copper, gold, and zinc accounting for 12.5 percent of the country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and 50 percent of the country’s foreign exchange earnings. Drought and a high prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS among adults are major ongoing difficulties.
