Zambia is a Southern Africa country sharing its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Angola, and Namibia. The country’s population is approximately 18 million people comprising over 72 ethnic groups, including Bemba,Tonga, Chewa, Lozi, and Nsenga. The major languages spoken by the people include English, Bemba, Nyanja, Lozi, Tonga, Luvale, Lunda, and Kaonde. The country has a tropical climate, and the terrain consists of plateaus, hills, and mountains. The Kafue National Park, which is home to various wildlife species, is one of the country’s major tourist attractions.
Zambia is the second-largest producer of copper in Africa, and it accounts for 60% of the country’s exports. Other sources of foreign exchange include Copper, Cobalt, Tobacco, Flowers, and Cotton. Politically, the country operates a presidential republic system of government which is administratively divided into 10 provinces including Lusaka —the capital. The major challenges facing the country include extreme poverty, high unemployment levels, and high debt burden, which is currently over 60 percent of GDP.
