SADC
The Southern African Development Community (formerly the Southern African Development Coordinating Conference) is a 16-member regional group in Southern Africa established on 17 August 1992.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is committed to regional integration and poverty eradication within Southern Africa through economic development and ensuring peace and security. SADC covers a total of 556,781 square kilometres with a population of about 345 million.
Its member states are Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The vision of SADC is to build a region in which there will be a high degree of harmonisation and rationalisation to enable the pooling of resources to achieve collective self-reliance to improve the living standards of the people of the region.
The work of SADC is guided by SADC Treaty adopted in Windhoek, Namibia, in 1992. The Community has over 25 protocols dealing with issues such as corruption, illegal drug trafficking, extradition, defense, and control of firearms ammunition.
SADC is made up of eight (8) principal institutions and organs. They comprise the Summit of Heads of State & Government, SADC Tribunal, Council of Ministers, Organ on Politics, Defense& Security Cooperation, Sectoral/Cluster Ministerial Committees, SADC Secretariat, Standing Committee of Officials, and SADC National Committees.The Tanzania Development Vision 2025
