The Breastfeeding Promotion Regulation prohibits the sale, promotion and distribution of free samples of designated products to health care personnel and health care facilities. The document defines designated products as: “infant and follow-up formula, feeding bottle, teat, pacifiers, and any product that is marketed as suitable for feeding infants up to six months of age”. The regulation also prohibits manufacturers of designated products from sponsoring the attendance of health personnel to a conference. Manufacturers of non-designated products, however, can distribute educational materials on feeding infants and the young once the materials have been screened and approved by the Food and Drugs Board.
