Prevention of cancer should be integrated with the prevention of chronic diseases and other related areas of healthcare (such as reproductive health, hepatitis B immunization, HIV/AIDS, occupational health and environmental health). Therefore, this Breast Cancer Prevention and Control Policy document is designed to prioritize breast cancer awareness, prevention, treatment and care in South Africa. It provides clinical support for women, who are both at risk of developing the disease later in life and are currently undergoing treatment, to survive and live healthy lives.

“No foodstuff, which has been irradiated shall be sold unless the Minister or the Director-General has in writing, approved the sale of such irradiated foodstuff”.

The Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan details the vision, mission, goals, objectives, key strategies, and activities, indicators and targets for the country’s malaria elimination programme. The vision of this policy is to achieve a malaria-free South Africa.

The notice lists foodstuffs deemed to be contaminated, impure, decayed, harmful or injurious to human health, if they contain the metals in column 1, in amounts exceeding the corresponding levels in column 3 when measured using accredited analytical methods.

A sampling of pesticide residues in food shall be carried out in accordance with the latest edition of the Codex Alimentarius Standards.

The act amends the medicines and related substances act of 1965, to provide for the functions of the authority, the composition of committees and board of the authority, and to redefine certain expressions for textual correctness and clarity.

The provisions of the amendment include; making the council a juristic person; prohibition of sales on medicines not registered; regulation of inspector powers; council’s powers to acquire and appropriate funds; and supply of affordable medicines.
