The act applies to all animals, animals of specific breed types or such animals declared by the minister. The act stipulates requirements for the breeding, identification and utilisation of genetically superior animals, to improve the production and economic performance of animals in South Africa. It makes provisions for an animal breeders’ society, requirements for registration, approval, and management of semen collectors, inseminators, embryo collectors, import agents, and premises where genetic materials are managed.
