The Act recognizes the right of citizens to environments that are beneficial to health and well-being; and the right to have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations. through reasonable legislative and other measures that prevent pollution, environmental degradation, and promotes the sustainable development and use of natural resources. The Act develops a framework for integrating good environmental management into all development activities, establishing principles guiding the exercise of functions related to the environment, and establishing procedures promoting public participation in environmental governance.
