Nigeria Every Newborn Action Plan lays out a vision and a plan for Nigeria to end preventable new-born deaths and stillbirths, accelerate progress, and scale up high-impact, cost-effective interventions. It serves as a framework for Nigeria’s 36 states to develop their area-specific action plans.

This plan details what data needs to be collected, how best they should be collected and how the results of the National Strategic Health Development Plan I should be disseminated and used.

The Roadmap is structured into four sections: the first summarizes the current landscape for maternal and new-born health including relevant strategies, the situation analysis and the severity of maternal and new-born mortality in the six states. The second section builds on the previous foundation to lay out the theory of change and identify the critical drivers needed to accelerate change. The third section highlights the roadmap for action and the fourth highlights strategies for accountability.

This protocol is intended to serve as a resource for health workers in Nigeria who provide services (including promotive, preventive and curative health services), especially those functioning at the primary health care level. Its purpose is to enable health workers to respond to adolescents more effectively and with greater sensitivity.
