The law specifies the use and management of water resources in the country. It delineates water resources into natural (natural streams and rivers, lakes, wetlands, springs, and aquifers) and artificial waters(works done to store water, fluvial and lakeside harbours, and navigation channels). It contains provisions addressing; management and use of water, protection of water resources, flood and drought management, administrative sanctions, offences, and penalties, and other transitional provisions.
