The Act stipulates that oral preparations which contain bacterial strains listed in the schedule, either solely, or in combination with other pharmacologically active ingredients; and make medicinal claims other than the general health claim provided for their use; shall be subjected to registration as medicines falling under the pharmacological classification of category A referred to in the medicines and related substances act of 1965.
