The METASIP serves as the implementation tool for agricultural programmes and policy for 2011-2015. It is in line with the government’s hopes of positioning agriculture as the leading sector for growth and transformation of the economy. The METASIP targets agricultural GDP growth of 6% annually, halving poverty by 2015, in line with MDG 1, and government allocation of 10%. It calls for active private sector involvement in all efforts at intervention and attainment of set targets.
