The act acknowledges the constitutional right to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations; the role played by natural forests and woodlands, and the need for sustainable management. The purposes of the act include: create the conditions necessary to restructure forestry in state forests; promote community forestry; and to promote the sustainable use of forests for environmental, economic, educational, recreational, cultural, health and spiritual purposes.
