The objectives of these guidelines are: to provide a framework for the implementation of the HIVSS as an additional HIV testing approach; to improve couples testing among pregnant women and lactating mothers, in order to reach untested male partners; to provide an option for regular repeat HIV testing in key populations, such as sex workers and transgender people.
