“No foodstuff, which has been irradiated shall be sold unless the Minister or the Director-General has in writing, approved the sale of such irradiated foodstuff”.

The regulations implement the provisions of the genetically modified organisms act of 1997, with respect to applying for permits to conduct activities concerning genetically modified organisms, and risk assessment of such activities. Procedures during accidents involving genetically modified organisms are also provided.

The policy is meant to be read along with the 2013 general policy on the allocation and management of fishing rights. The minister delegates powers of fishing rights allocation to officials of the department of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. The objectives of allocating fishing rights include: to broaden meaningful participation, promote food security, and facilitate the recovery of over-exploited fish species. The policy sets out the criteria guiding evaluation, allocation and management of fishing rights in the Patagonian toothfish fishery; it is to serve as a guide for a delegated official.

The act establishes the agricultural research council as a juristic person, with the functions, powers, and duties highlighted. The regulations make provisions for the importation of controlled goods through the application for, and issuance of permits, specification of ports of entry of such goods, and inspection process.
